Hey friends, it's been a minute since we've had a Project Street Update. There's a lot to go over, so let's run down all the features of the prototype, what features are functional now, and wrap it all up with a video (linked above!) to show off most gameplay features. Prototype functional features:
Vehicle health, damage, and repair
Nitrous
Minimap
Race HUD
Garage Menu
An alpha city map full of secrets
Buying / Selling Vehicles
Vehicles are locked until they are found and downloaded in the city
Billboards advertising Race Modes that are in development
Billboards advertising the one functional race mode: Urban Rally Race Mode
2 racers that race the Player in the Urban Rally Race Mode
First Time User Experience that guides the player through the opening sequence
Reminder messages to keep the player reminded of their goals
Currency that is earned through races and spent on repairing vehicles and purchasing to unlock vehicle blueprints
Moving traffic (at times wonky, we will need a polish pass before user testing)
Prototype features to come:
Vehicle Archetype powers
This feature may need to be pushed to a standalone release due to the limitations of the rig rail traffic system in UEFN. It's hard to fling around props on a track!
Sector Reputation
A boss Race Scenario unlocked through progression
Customizing Vehicles
We may need to scale this down to changing paint profiles until we can get a system spun up to apply body modifications such as spoilers, exhausts, and window tint.
Upgrading Vehicles with performance updates
We're still researching how best to improve vehicle performance after the player selects an upgrade. Fine-tuning the handling, acceleration, and top speed of a vehicle is precise work that may not be supported in UEFN. We may need to push this feature to a stand-alone release outside of UEFN for this reason.
Once the prototype features are completed, the project will enter a bug-finding phase for a month before opening the gates to Online User Feedback testing. We want our players to focus on finding the fun instead of reporting bugs!
