December 2024 Showcase

Hey friends, a lot is new for Project Street since our last showcase in September! For starters, we are now on Youtube! I've uploaded videos from my time sharing the project on LinkedIn over the past year and a half, plus I'll be uploading feature spotlight videos and debug bloopers to get the word about our upcoming Prototype launch to Fortnite.

Before we jump into updates, in case you haven't heard: Project Street is an open-world narrative racing experience in development for Fortnite. Imagine the open world of Midnight Club, the carnage of Burnout, and a narrative progression reminiscent of Far Cry. The project is currently in a prototype state, and will be releasing to Fortnite in early 2025 to continue building and polishing alongside the community.

In this month's showcase video, we run through every functional feature, show off the prototype sandbox map, and point out a a few boards for communicating future features/in progress features to players.

What's in and functional:

  • 5 playable vehicles

  • First Time User Experience that leads the player through onboarding and their goals

  • Story Objectives and Secret Objectives to keep the player invested

  • An open world with moving traffic

  • Vehicle "Blueprints" that must be found in the open world and downloaded to purchase

  • A Garage Menu to buy and sell vehicles, and to switch which active vehicle the player is using

  • A Performance Shop with a functional option to buy and install nitrous to any vehicle

  • A Health system that is repaired by Service Stations found at the Garage and in Player Houses

  • A repeatable race that gives gold when finished, increasing the amount of gold granted as the game progresses

  • Player Housing so the player can have a place to call their own, alongside fun vehicles and strategically placed Service Stations. This feature is aimed to address Long Term Retention by giving players a place to spend their gold in the late game.

Work in Progress:

  • Faster Racers and Bosses that spawn during certain races

  • Moving traffic that doesn't blink in and out of existence

  • Decorating Player Houses using Tycoon design elements

  • Vehicles aesthetic customizations in the Body Shop

  • Law Enforcement vehicles that challenge the player during Boss scenarios
